Patient Stories
Every day, Bowel Cancer New Zealand supports patients and whānau through diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and beyond. The services we provide help people feel informed, supported, and less alone during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. But these services are only possible thanks to the generosity of our community and the funds raised by supporters like you.
Patients have shared their stories about what this support means to them, and these stories showcase how your fundraising can make a difference.
Shani’s 100km for Bowel Cancer NZ
When Shani’s dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer in October 2024, everything changed. Thankfully, his cancer was found early – but the experience made Shani determined to do something big to raise awareness and support others going through the same journey.
Middleware Mudrunners Make a Difference
Each year, more than 30 team members from Middleware New Zealand dive into Tough Guy & Gal mud runs across the country to raise vital funds for Bowel Cancer NZ.
Scarlett’s helping families affected by bowel cancer
After her mum, Heidi, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021, 10-year-old Scarlett wanted to help other people affected by the disease. She started fundraising at her local farmers’ market, selling home-made gift bags to raise money, while her family sold their own olive oil.
Choosing to fundraise for Bowel Cancer New Zealand means that you are continuing to provide these valuable support services and help foster a community for patients and whãnau no matter where they are on their journey with bowel cancer.
